Lord of the Rings: Themes
Everyone interprets movies in different ways; it's true. You gain something new from a movie, book, or a tv show and it's some knowledge that you have never known before. It can be inspiring, uplifting, or even depressing but no matter what, you gain new knowledge from it.
I recently (and as in recently, I mean maybe an hour ago) just finished watching, for the first time, Lord of the Rings. And before you say,"What, this chick hasn't seen Lotr before?" let me tell you that when I was really young, I would watch parts of it and then I mistakenly labeled the movie as boring and for a perfectly plausible reason at my age. That reason is being I never saw the beginning, but only parts of the movie and because of that, was never able to understand the story and the meaning behind why these hobbits and elves and wizards etc. were teaming up together to defeat these creepy goblin things. So it wasn't my fault I had no idea what was going on. Any other kid probably just liked it because of the many divine creatures inside the story, but I liked to make sense of things, even at that age. Anyways, moving on. I watched all of them today and I really came to love it.
I gained my own interpretation of Lord of the Rings and the first lesson I learned from it was that life simply goes on and we must ENDURE IT. But most importantly, we have people who love us and care for us and that's what makes enduring life LESS SCARY. I've found a reoccurring message like this in stories such as Harry potter and Toy Story. And I think the reason why stories like these are so popular is because people miss that in their lives. They like to be told once in a while that they are loved by someone and that they don't have to overcome a trial alone. People don't want to hear truth that hurts but what about truth that doesn't hurt? There's nothing wrong with that. Also, life will tear you down whenever it can get the chance, but without love, you can't overcome it's blows. That's the message I would like to get across in this entry today. That is the ultimate testimony I have on life. The testimony of enduring to the end and by doing that through love. I am so passionate about this subject, you have no idea. But I think it's important to understand this concept because without it, we are lost. We would have nothing to look forward to...we wouldn't have hope. Hope is one of my favorite concepts; it is the essence of good things to come. Hope changes things and it certainly changes people. I won't lie. There are days when I am just tired of living in the world I'm living in and tired of the people living in it that I just block everyone out and assume that the world is an evil, cold place with no compassion whatsoever. I regret the my hatred feelings right after because I know those thoughts aren't true.
Then there are days when I get back on my feet again and I see the people in this world who have so much potential of greatness. I have a belief in humanity because we are souls. And our souls are a beam of light. A beam of light that loves and learns and prays and forgives and experiences. But sometimes we forget what we are made of: the same elements as stars. And if we are made out of the same elements as the stars, why don't we shine as bright as them? Yeah, sometimes I ask myself the same question. Well, Lord of the Rings was one of the best movies I've seen in a while. I love the message and I love the feeling of hope it gave me. I'm signing off. Peace :)
